CNC Steel Machining in Poland — Turned and Milled Steel Parts

Steel is what we machine every day: shafts, axles, pins, bushings, flanges, rings and housings — from a single spare part to batches and regular deliveries. At HARDPOWER in Szczecin, Poland, close to the German border, we saw, turn, mill, drill and tap steel on DMG MORI machines and check dimensions on a Mitutoyo coordinate measuring machine. Everything is done in one plant, without splitting your order between several subcontractors.

Steel grades we machine

These are the grades our parts are most often made from. It is not a closed list — if your drawing calls for a different grade, let us know and we will check material availability.

  • Structural steel, e.g. S235JR and S355J2 — machine parts made from flat bar, round bar and square bar.
  • Quenched and tempered steel, e.g. C45 (≈ AISI 1045) and 42CrMo4 (≈ AISI 4140) — shafts, axles, pins and flanges, i.e. parts that carry loads.
  • Stainless steel, e.g. 1.4301 (304) and 1.4404 (316L) — valve and fitting parts, components for the food and marine industries. Stainless is harder to cut than structural steel, so the same part usually costs more.
  • Tool steel — cut and machined to drawing.
  • Wear-resistant steel (Hardox type) — on request. Wear-plate profiles cut elsewhere can be machined further: holes, threads, fitted surfaces and chamfers.

We buy material with a 3.1 inspection certificate to EN 10204 and record every delivery in our stock system. A 3.2 certificate is also possible — just state it in your enquiry. If you supply your own material, its documents remain your responsibility.

Not sure how a grade on your drawing translates? Our steel grade equivalents tool shows approximate equivalents in EN, DIN, ASTM/AISI/SAE, JIS and other systems side by side, and How to read steel designations explains names like S355J2+N. General guidance: Material selection for CNC machining.

Steel sawing, turning and milling

  • Sawing: we cut material ourselves on band saws, up to ø 400 mm. Bars, tubes and sections get a square end face, which matters for the next operations. More: cutting.
  • Turning: parts from ø 15 to 750 mm and up to 1240 mm long, on DMG MORI CLX 450 and CLX 550 lathes with sub-spindle, Y-axis and driven tools. We also turn eccentric parts. More: CNC turning.
  • Milling: workpieces up to 750 × 600 × 520 mm on a 5-axis DMG MORI CMX 70U and a DMG MORI M1 vertical machining centre. More: CNC milling.
  • Drilling, tapping and chamfering: holes, metric and imperial threads, chamfers — including weld preparation bevels, which we machine on the milling centre.

All machines are listed on the machine park page. To be clear: we do not grind, and we do not cut plate by laser, plasma or waterjet. We are a machining shop.

Inspection and documents

The operator always checks the first piece, including after every machine changeover. We measure on a Mitutoyo CRYSTA-APEX S9106 coordinate measuring machine with accuracy down to 0.5 μm, and with shop-floor instruments such as micrometers and bore gauges. The measurement report follows your requirements and can be issued in English, German or Polish. Details: precise measurement.

HARDPOWER holds ISO 9001:2015 certificate no. NC-3170 issued by Polski Rejestr Statków (PRS). How to read and choose tolerances on a drawing: Tolerances in CNC machining and ISO fits H7, h6, g6, js9.

Heat treatment and coatings

Steel parts often need hardening or corrosion protection after machining. Hardening, QPQ nitrocarburising, zinc plating, black oxide, electroless nickel plating and passivation of stainless steel are carried out by partner companies we work with, so you receive a part ready for assembly.

What to tell us about a steel part

For steel we most often ask about three things. First, the grade and delivery condition: “C45” and “C45 quenched and tempered (+QT)” are two different material orders for us. Second, whether the part is to be hardened or coated after machining — and how. Third, which dimensions are critical. Mark them on the drawing and leave the rest to general tolerances (ISO 2768 calculator): the part will cost less, and what matters will still be measured.

How to request a quote for steel parts

Send your drawing — preferably a PDF with tolerances and, if you have one, a STEP model — to biuro@hardpower.pl. The contact form does not accept files.

State the steel grade, quantity and required date. If you need a 3.2 certificate, a measurement report or heat treatment, mention it straight away. We will reply with a price and lead time.

What a complete enquiry should contain is described in How to prepare a project for a CNC machining quote. We work for customers in Poland and abroad, including Germany — among others in machine building, automotive, mining and renewable energy.

Frequently asked questions

Do you machine single steel parts?

Yes. We make single spare parts and prototypes, small batches of a few hundred pieces and series production with repeat deliveries of several thousand pieces. There is no minimum order quantity. For larger series we agree capacity and delivery schedule with you individually.

Do you machine Hardox?

Yes, on request. Tell us the grade and what needs to be done — for example holes and threads in a finished profile-cut part — and we will check whether we can do it.

Will I get a material certificate?

We buy material with a 3.1 inspection certificate to EN 10204. A 3.2 certificate is possible if you state it in your enquiry.

My drawing uses an AISI or DIN grade. Can you work with it?

Yes. Grades from different standards usually have a European equivalent — for example AISI 4140 corresponds to 42CrMo4 (1.7225). You can check equivalents in our steel grade equivalents tool. We always order exactly the grade specified in your order; if it is not available, we propose an alternative grade before ordering material — the decision is yours.

Can you have the part hardened or zinc plated?

Yes, through partner companies we work with. The part comes back to us or goes straight to you — we agree this when you place the order.
